Friday 18th July Adelaide to Broome, Adios Adelaide and Hello Beautiful Broome

We had a very early
start today, up at 3.30am! Although we went to bed extra early in preparation for
our start, we both struggled to sleep. Maybe it was due to the excitement of
this up-and-coming trip. Our Uber picked us up just after 4am and we arrived at
the airport with plenty of time to spare. We checked in and went through
security and had nearly an hour to kill until boarding time and so coffees and a
shared ham and cheese croissant were required. This was breakfast number one!
The 6am flight to Melbourne left on time and we were then offered a small egg,
mushroom and spinach frittata breakfast roll. It had been nearly two hours
since our last breakfast so why not have breakfast number two. Arriving in Melbourne
we thought we might be short on time to walk from one gate to the other but
luckily an early arrival of the Adelaide plane and a late departure of the Broome
plane made things pretty simple. Again, once we were on our way, we were
offered breakfast number three! (It must have been at least another two hours
since the last one.) This time we enjoyed some berry yoghurt and a strange fruit
slice/bar thing. About 4 &1/2 hours later we arrived in Broome, to
beautiful warm weather and sunshine…..and it wasn’t even lunchtime yet. We checked
into our hotel and met another Adelaide couple, Sue and David, who are also
doing the Kimberley Coral Expedition cruise. They too were feeling a little
weary and seeing our rooms weren’t ready they suggested we all go somewhere
nearby for lunch. One of the hotel staff suggested, Matso’s Broome Brewery and
it didn’t disappoint. It was set in a very large rustic building with a huge
wrap around veranda and had beautiful outdoor areas as well. We all enjoyed our
meals, including crocodile kababs and barramundi, sitting on the veranda with
huge overhead fans keeping us cool. Rob tried the craft beer and enjoyed it,
and I tried the alcoholic ginger beer. Delicious! We wandered back to our hotel
and our rooms were now ready. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing and
Rob even braved the pool for a swim!

I was awake waiting for your call about 4 but can't say I am sorry the Uber turned up ...it was a little cool. I am currently warm here at home - not as much exercise or quality views with a heated throw but needs must I guess! Keep enjoying.
